We traveled up to Door County and Washington Island this weekend. It was gorgeous! The trees are turning fabulous colors and it's just very peaceful. I had never been to Door County and figured it would be rather touristy, but it wasn't in the least. All the towns are small and very quaint. A wonderful area we will definitely visit again.
This is us standing at the foot of Sturgeon Bay, an inlet from the Green Bay. We camped at Potawatomi State Park and really enjoyed the area. We didn't have a lot of time, so we're going to go back to hike the various trails and ride the bike trail.

We hiked along the bay in the morning and it was amazing how clear the water was. It was a great morning, cool and crisp. The water was crystal clear and our walk along the shore was great. Not a soul around and the only sound was the waves coming into shore.
We did have time to climb the 75-foot observation tower to see the entire area and it was a sight. Beautiful! I'd like to purchase that little island behind Cody and build my house there. :)
From Sturgeon Bay, we drove up the Lake Michigan side of the peninsula and wound up taking the ferry over to Washington Island. They said the island wasn't very big, so we just took our bikes and rode around. Well, the island is a little bigger that we expected. We had a great ride, but didn't get to see a whole lot, so we'll have to return there also. It was a really good time though.
These are a couple of shots from the ferry. It took about 25 min. each way and it was darn cold. The wind just bit your skin. Thankfully I had my windstopper jacket, just no hat or gloves.
